The Henry County School Board met on July 8, 2010 at 6:00 PM. 

 Sample ImageSam Tharpe was introduced as the new principal at E. W. Grove School. Director of Schools Sam Miles stated Tharpe will continue to do a tremendous job as an educational leader.

County and City Educators Prepare for Race to the Top

Summer at HCHS

Sample Image  Sample Image  Sample Image  High school cheer and dance squads are practicing at HCHS with coaches from Pennsylvania based Elite, Inc. There are 16 cheerleaders and 10 dance team members this year who will be performing at various games and pep rallies for the 2010-2011 year. Summer school students are also taking advantage of computer-based education activities. In addition, the school is hosting training sessions for educators in and out of our district during the summer months. Teaching and learning are always taking place in the Henry County School System!

Exemplary Training

Sample Image Judy McGregor, Henry County School System School Improvement Consultant, speaks to 90  K-12 educators about pacing guide research and application/implications of successful practices, Monday morning in the HCHS Testing Center. The educators will be working in grade levels and content areas to develop and update pacing guides for the new state standards. These 90 teachers will be trainers for their respective schools, developing professional learning communities within their school and the district. The teams will meet for work sessions on June 21-22 as part of the Race to the Top grant to assure our school system is aligning our curriculum, instruction,and assessment with the new standards. As Director of Schools Sam Miles states: Know what to teach, how to teach it, and how to assess it. Inservice Changes for 2010-2011

Pease note:  Three days of REQUIRED INSERVICE FOR ALL TEACHERS: July 30; August 2; August 3

For the additional two days of contracted in-service activities, teachers can choose activities of interest and relevance. Eighteen (18) hours of Curriculum Instruction/School Environment and twelve (12) hours of Safety, Wellness, and Technology activities are still required. Check the JCAL Mini-Calendar (located at the left-hand side of this page) for inservice opportunities.

Summer Lunch Program

Sample ImageFood that's in when school is out!  Henry County School System will be providing a summer food service program for children 18 years and younger. No questions asked and no forms to be filled out, just a good, free, summer meal!
