As the end of the school year approaches, educators and students are evaluated and tested for the knowledge they have taught and learned. We typically see some of these assessments in the forms of observable data from classroom evaluations and state mandated exams. by Linda Klink The second of four academic competitions held each year in the Henry County School System have students from grades 6-8 participating for honors. Each elementary/middle school hosts one competition with the grand finale held at KPAC on May 7, 2010. The students are quizzed on academic knowledge, application, and vocabulary. They compete in quick buzzer rounds, dry erase board rounds, and a bonus round. The competitions have been very exciting with only a few points between the teams at any time during the competition. Lakewood has won by a very slim margin each time. With two competitions to go, it is anyone's guess who will be the final winner!

You will find the Henry County School System Service-Learning Newsletter, First Edition, in the Spring issue of Paris! Magazine. Make sure you read a copy and find pictures and stories of service-learning projects that were completed in the Fall semester. Editor, Susan Jones, wants to showcase the fabulous academic and civic work our students, educators, and community partners are engaged in order to extend learning beyond the classroom. It is hoped that we can publish in the Fall and Spring of each year. As Jones says, "it's gratifying to read about the marvelous things that have been happening in our county's classrooms." Keep those projects coming!
