Union City, TN – Middle school FFA students celebrated National Ag Day at Discovery Park of America on Tuesday. Students enjoyed a variety of hands-on activities to learn about agriculture and conversed with over 20 vendors who were present, informing students about the numerous careers available in the field of agriculture.

“It’s a great event. It’s our third year going. The kids love getting to talk to industry people. Prior to the day, we practice how to ask questions, make eye contact, and thank exhibitors for their time and the swag. This is a priceless opportunity for students to practice pre-employability skills,” explains Brandi Besand, Ag and Art teacher at Lakewood Elementary School.

“The exhibitors also do a great job asking questions of the kids and engaging them in learning opportunities in unique ways. Overall, it’s the event my students get the most excited about every year. We are thankful to the Discovery Park for hosting this free event.”

National Ag Day at Discovery Park increases public awareness of how important agriculture is in our society and began in 1973. Students attended lessons lead by education specialists in such areas as greenhouses and plants, plus agriculture related businesses and organizations were there to hand out information, answer questions, and give away items for students to take home and learn more about the business or organization.
