HENRY COUNTY SCHOOL SYSTEM

Paris, TN -The Henry County School Board met last night in their regularly monthly meeting to discuss their main agenda. Before beginning the meeting, the Pledge of Allegiance was led by the high school students committed to military service. Other agenda items discussed were as follows:
-Student Ambassadors and the ACT 30+ students were recognized.
-The Director of Schools contract was renewed in a 4-year contract from 2025-2029.
-RISE students, Justin Johnson and Lillie Powell were recognized with a plaque and check for $100 each.
-Dr. Michele Webb and Robin House presented the Utrust Appreciation, Information about the Robotics team competition, and recognized the students who had signed to play sports at a post-secondary school and recognized the students who have committed to the military.
-Students who attended the SCOPE Conference with Dr. David Webb thanked the board for allowing them to attend the conference and learn about the importance of school boards and debating issues that affect education.
-Dr. Melissa Rowlett spoke about the Summer Learning program for rising kindergarten through rising ninth grade students. About 1300 invitations went out today. It will be this summer, Monday -Thursday from 7:30 -2:30. Students will have small classroom instruction for reading, math, intervention, STREAM, and play.
-The school nutrition department will be supplying breakfast and lunch for summer learning and will be providing a weekend food bag that will include a breakfast and lunch for Friday-Sunday.
-The board voted to recognize Doug and Shirley Braden at a fall basketball game
-The board voted to approve the resolution to meet requirements for the teacher bonus under the Freedom Scholarship Act but stated they did not agree with the voucher system. The school system will act as a funnel for the bonus funds to be paid to teachers who work at least 50% of their time directly with students.
-The HCHS tornado safe shelter is approved but still waiting for funding and a contract with FEMA/TEMA
-High school course selections have begun
-TCAP testing begins next week
