Paris, TN – The Tennessee Higher Education Commission (THEC) announced the launch of TN Direct Admissions, a new pilot program that automatically accepts eligible high school seniors into in-state public and private universities, as well as the state's community and technical colleges (TCAT), using existing academic data. Henry County High School is one of only 38 high schools in Tennessee that will be provided with a Direct Admissions Advisor this year at no cost to the high school.
This November, graduating seniors in the Class of 2026 will receive a TN Direct Admissions letter from Governor Lee showing which of more than 50 Tennessee universities, colleges, and TCATs have already accepted them–no applications or fees required. Some students also will receive estimated financial aid information, making it easier to see all their options at once. Students need to complete the TN Promise application between August 1 and November 1 to stay on track. Keep an eye on your mailbox in November—review your offers, confirm your acceptance, and you’ll be on your way!
The Tennessee Higher Education Commission is leading this pilot to streamline college entry and increase enrollment statewide. Direct Admissions advisors will help students understand the direct admissions process (including interpreting their letters and aid awards), claiming their spots at participating postsecondary institutions, completing the FAFSA, identifying additional financial aid awards potentially available to them at each institution, completing the steps necessary to enroll in the selected college, and preparing to be successful at their chosen postsecondary institution.
Tennessee wants every graduating high school senior to know that in-state colleges and universities are eager to welcome them! Whether students are considering a four-year university, a two-year community college, or a Tennessee College of Applied Technology (TCAT), TN Direct Admissions offers a faster, clearer way to explore the state’s many postsecondary opportunities. With TN Direct Admissions, students and families don’t have to wonder, “Will I get in?” or pay multiple application fees. Instead, they’ll receive clear admission decisions and financial aid information from participating colleges—before they even apply.
