PARIS, TN – The Henry County Board of Education (HCBOE) met at Lakewood Elementary School on November 6, 2025, focusing on recognizing outstanding student achievements and reviewing essential operational business.

The meeting’s highlight was the celebration of the Henry County Middle School Girls Soccer Team (HCMSS), who secured the state championship this fall. Coach Alex Hayes proudly addressed the Board, stating, “These girls represented Henry County with class and dignity, and I couldn’t be prouder of their performance on and off the field.” Assistant Coach Raven Wyrick added, “This is a fantastic group of girls, and we’re so thankful for the support of our school and community.”

Also receiving recognition was the Henry County High School Golf Team for their state-qualifying performance during the fall season. Though conflicts prevented the full team from attending, player Allie Welp expressed thanks to the board and community for their support.

Principal Amber Ryan introduced a presentation on Lakewood Elementary’s Best Buddies program, led by sponsor Marcie Burkhart. Ms. Burkhart explained that the program promotes inclusion, friendships, and leadership through monthly activities that foster connectedness among all students.

Assistant Principal Emily Townsend highlighted the Utrust Employee Recognition Program and announced that November marks Director of Schools and School Board Appreciation Month. Lakewood students and sponsor, Alaina Mathis, honored the Director and Board members for their service by presenting them with handmade cards and treats

In administrative actions, the Board passed the policy recommendation for Report Cards (Policy 4.061). Director of Schools Dr. Leah Watkins provided a detailed review of budget revisions for both General Purpose and Federal funds. Dr. Watkins also gave a facilities update, confirming that L. I. Smith and Associates will be managing the bid openings for the critical Lakewood Septic work.

Due to the numerous conflicting holiday programs and school activities, the Board elected to postpone its next scheduled meeting and will reconvene in January 2026.
