PARIS, TN -The Henry County School System is proud to announce that three local students secured second-place honors at the annual math competition hosted by the University of Tennessee at Martin. Competing against top talent from across West Tennessee, the "Patriots" achieved their most successful collective showing in at least ten years.

The regional event invited schools to test their proficiency in categories ranging from Algebra I to Calculus. Henry County’s performance was highlighted by high-ranking finishes in both foundational and advanced mathematics.

Individual performances are as follows:

Katrina Liu (E.W. Grove): Liu earned second place in Algebra I. Reflecting on the high-energy environment, Liu described the event as a "good experience," despite the chaotic atmosphere of testing alongside older students. She is the daughter of Guo Rong and WenHui Liu and plans to major in Business at Cornell University.

Brian Hollowell (HCHS Senior): Hollowell tied for second place in Calculus. He noted a significant increase in participation this year, marking a more competitive field than in years past. The son of Justin and Samantha Hollowell, he will attend the University of Tennessee at Knoxville this fall to major in Physics.

Drew Pack (HCHS Senior): Pack also tied for second place in Calculus. Pack encouraged his peers to seek out academic competitions regardless of the outcome, emphasizing the value of the college campus experience. The son of Ed and Sarah Pack, he is also headed to the University of Tennessee at Knoxville this fall to study Mechanical Engineering.

The students were led by Henry County High School math teacher Dr. Beth Weed, who selected 27 participants for the trip based on faculty recommendations. According to Dr. Weed, the energy of this year's group was exceptional.

"They were enthusiastic and motivated to compete at their very best level," said Dr. Weed. "This is the first time in at least 10 years that three Patriots have placed in this competition. I am very proud of how they represented Henry County."

The Henry County School System congratulates these students on their academic rigor and their success in representing the district on a regional stage.
