Thank you to CARES Director Ms. Donna Varneke and her team for keeping our schools clean and friendly!

Career Exploration is an elective class for 6th, 7th and 8th grade students at Harrelson, Henry, and Lakewood Schools. Students participate in personality and learning style inventories, learn about the programs of study at HCHS, learn about growing careers in our region and across the nation, and participate in hands-on activities that connect to job tasks and skill sets.
Pictured: During their Career Exploration Class, 8th grade students were given 30 sheets of copy paper, 3 feet of masking tape and 40 minutes to build a structure that was free-standing and big enough for one student to get under. This activity is a connection to the field of engineering. We learned how engineers do not always expect everything to work perfectly the first time, and hence, why the engineering design process exists. They all agreed that with more time, they would eventually find success.

The Henry County School System is proud to partner with the Paris-Henry County Industrial Committee to support employability skills for our young people. Throughout the year, students learn and practice important skills that will carry them far in life towards their careers. Each month focuses on a different skill. During October, our students across all schools are working to build PERSEVERANCE Skills.

As we kick off the month of October, we want to take some time to spotlight our amazing principals! We appreciate the hard work our principals put into our schools and students every day. Throughout this month, we will share with you a bit about each one individually!

For the month of September's Utrust Grant, Henry School celebrated their bus drivers! Each driver received a gift card from Dollar General, a Sonic drink, and letters of thanks from Henry's Kids Corner students. Henry staff expressed..."We are so thankful for all they do for us."
Utrust is an organization supporting public schools in Tennessee. They offer a variety of grants to member schools, and the Henry County School System is thankful for the grants provided to our schools to help celebrate our students and staff!

Henry County High School Juniors and Seniors had an opportunity to hear from UT System President Randy Boyd today as part of his annual Find Your Future high school tour. Each year, President Boyd travels across Tennessee to encourage students to think boldly about their futures and explore the opportunities available through UT at their five campuses--Chattanooga, Health Sciences, Knoxville, Martin, and Southern.
President Boyd was joined by UT Martin Chancellor Yancy Freeman and a recent UT Martin graduate, Ashlyn Drewry, who is now the Manager of Marketing and Public Relations at Discovery Park of America.
The group shared how UT helps students pursue their goals through affordable pathways to a degree, strong career outcomes, and a college experience designed to prepare them for their next steps. President Boyd shared with students that those with a bachelor’s degree make an average of $1.5 million more in lifetime earnings and that 55.3% of UT undergrad students graduate debt-free, six of ten students due to the UT Promise program. Students received information about the UT system and had a chance to receive a UT shirt.
